STATE COAL MINES IDLE
♦ DISPUTE OVER HOLIDAY PAY (PEBSS ASSOCIATION TELEGKAM.) GREYMOUTH, December 21. The Liverpool State mine was idle to-day as a result of a dispute regarding payment for the King's Birthday. The dispute also affects the James State mine. It is understood that the men's demand for payment has been refused by the Minister for Mines (the Hon. P. C. Webb).
The men went to the Liverpool mine this morning, but returned home. The shiftmen at the Jarnes mine are working to-day, but will come out to-night.
