ALLEGATIONS AGAINST FORMER PREMIER
THREAT TO GOVERNMENT OF ONTARIO MONTREAL, December 18. Mr Mitchell Hepburn (Premier of Ontario) has issued a statement alleging that the former Premier, Mr L. Taschereau, tried to force the Ontario Government to continue power contracts with four Quebec companies by threats to plunge eastern Ontario in darkness and to commit sabotage by pulling the plugs in the sluice gates on the Quebec side of the Chats Falls. The development of the threat was thwarted by the purchase of a frequency changer by the Hydro Commission, making all Ontario independent of the Quebec supply.
