"MILITARY EFFORT" BY GERMANY
FRENCH FOREBODINGS PARIS, December 17. M. Mistier, President of the Foreign Affairs Committee, addressing French members of Parliament, declared that Germany was making an intense military effort. She had established a war time economy in peace time as though she wanted to be ready shortly. "Perhaps she has not yet taken a decision or fixed the date, but we cannot be blind to the evidence," he added. The Minister for Defence (M. Daladier) declared that a forest of steel was spreading in Europe. The world had spent more than £2,000,000,000 on armaments in 1936. The meeting passed a resolution approving of the foreign policy of the Prime Minister (M. Leon Blum).
