HIGHER LICENSE FEE
Special Charge For Alsatian Dogs ACTION BY HEATHCOTE COUNTY "Breaking the ice," as one member termed it, the Heathcote County Council at its meeting last evening decided to fix a special registration fee for Alsatian dogs in the county. The fees fixed were 2s 6d for working dogs, other dogs 10s, and £ 1 for all dogs of the Alsatian breed. When the county clerk, Mr J. F. E Veale, asked for a resolution fixing dog registration fees for 1937. Cr C. Flavell suggested that Cr. J. F Cracroft Wilson, with his interest in dogs, should move the fees. Mr Veale: The same as last year, 2s 6d for working dogs and 10s tor others, including Pomeranians? Cr. F. W. Freeman: And dachS Cr. Cracroft Wilson: And a fiver for Alsatians. The chairman, Cr. A. G. Williams. I think if people can afford to keep an Alsatian they should pay £l. Cr Flavell: Have we power to do that 9 Has the Government done anything in the matter? Has anyone else done it? . . Mr Veale: There is nothing to stop it, although on one has yet taken such action. Cr Flavell: Oh, well, if it is only a matter of breaking the ice there is no reason why we should not. Cr. Freeman: Are there any Alsatians in the county? Mr W. W. Scarff, county inspector: There are two beauties that will not let you past the front gate. Cr" Cracroft Wilson: I move that the fees be 2s 6d, £ 1 for Alsatians, and 10s for other dogs. . The motion was put and carried unanimously.
