PIGEON FLYING
RACE FROM GISBORNE The Canterbury Pigeon Flying Club held a race from Gisborne last Saturday. Thirty-nine birds were sent, divided : among 17 owners. The birds were liberated by Mr R. Gritton on Saturday at 6 a.m. in flneweather with a light southerly breeze, but later on they met a strong south-wester, which made It impossible for them to reach home on the day of the toss. The winning bird, owned by Mr J Barter, flew the distance of 47 miles 1110 yards in 18hrs 27min 49scc. The following was the result:— Yds a min. J. Barter's No. 147 •• •• 711 G.
