THE LAW OF GOD AND THE SOCIAL STRUCTURE
to rat EniToa or TH* press. Sir,—l heartily agree with the whole of Mr H. Tritt's letter and congratulate him on his exposure and condemnation of our present social system. Still I am a little disappointed. For while he, quite rightly, blames "capitalism" for the "rotten" state of our present social system, he fails to define "capitalism." In my opinion, "capitalism" is a system of society, which permits a very small minority of private individauls to create, issue, recall, and destroy "money." This absolute power to control the supply of f'money" gives to these private individuals the power of life and death over all the people of the world. The banking system is their tool and kings, governments, trusts, combines, and millionaires their puppets. No millionaire is a "capitalist" and no king, president, dictator, or prime minister is the real governor of his country. For none of these can create and destroy, and therefore control, money. As long as private individuals are permitted to monetise the real wealth of the community, assume that this monetised real wealth is their own money and lend it back to the community, or to units of the community, at interest; so will all efforts to improve the lot of the people prove to be, not only futile, but actually stimulants of the evils which they were expected to cure.—Yours, etc., F. G. THOMAS. December 18, 1936.
