LAWN TENNIS
MANY UNFINISHED MATCHES effects of bad weather Owing mainly to the rainy weather earlier in the season many matches in the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association’s competitions were unfinished, reported the register keeper at a meeting of the competitions committee held last evening. Mr W. A. Clothier was in the chair. There were still 27 matches to be finished, with 54 teams affected. In some cases teams had a sufficient margin of games to be awarded the match. The results were, generally speaking "in a state of chaos.’’ It was decided to circularise the clubs asking that all unfinished matches be completed as soon as possible. A motion was passed expressing appreciation of the services of Mr P. R. Harman, who was, at the time of his death, president of the association, and sympathising with his relatives. It was decided to call for entries for a ladies’ mid-week competition to start on January 20. Matches were approved for January as follows: — January 9—A grade. Section 2 and Section 3; B grade and C grade. January 16—Senior men’s, senior mixed, A grade section 1. C grade and D grade. January 23—Senior men’s. A grade, sections 2 and 3. B grade and D grade. January 30—Senior mixed, A grade section 1, B grade and C grade.
