A NEW LAUNCH

A new 30-foot cabin launch, built fcy Mr Roy Hollis at Opawa, arrived at Lyttelton yesterday afternoon, and was successfully launched. The launch has been named Will o' the Wisp. Picnic Yesterday afternoon a party of about 80, nurses from the Christchurch Public Hospital held a picnic at Diamond

Harbour. The party had tea at the bay and returned last evening. Cruising Club's Outing During the week-end the Banks Peninsula Cruising Club held a cruise to Pigeon Bay, about 15 yachts and motor launches participating. On Saturday evening an enjoyable dance was held in the Pigeon Bay Hall. Sunday morning was spent at Holmes Bay. A race for motor-launches over a four mile course for the Dalrymple Memorial Cup was won by Marewa (J. S. Hawker), Pacific (W. Sillars) being second. Schools Closed In accordance with the instructions issued by the Health Department, the

schools in Lyttelton were closed yesterday morning for the summer holidays. At the Lyttelton Distract High School, the children of the infants' department and up to Standard 11. were each given a toy and a piece of Christmas cake, which they would have received at the usual Christmas tree party. Certificates to be awarded in the primary and secondary departments will be presented when the school resumes in February, probably in connexion with the opening of the new classrooms.
