OFFICIAL FORECASTS

[THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, December 15. The Dominion Observatory's weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued a 5 p.m., and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Light to moderate and variable winds, with southerlies predominating, and freshening somewhat during Wednesday. Weather for the most part fine, but isolated local showers probable. Cool night temperatures. Seas slight to moderate, but later increasing to some extent. The following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather still mainly fair to fine, but some isolated local showers probable, more particularly in the far south and in eastern coastal areas. " Temperatures becoming cooler in the South Island. A slight disturbance has been crossing the Dominion to-day; but pressure is still generallv above normal, and a fresh anti-cyclone is advancing across the South Tasman Sea. Winds—Light to moderate and variable, with west to south prevailing; but southerlies shortly becoming more general and freshening, especially on the East Coast of the South Island and about Cook Strait. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Slight to moderate, but rising south of Castlepoint, and about Cook Strait and Foveaux Strait. Eastern Tasman—Light to moderate and variable winds at first in the northern portion: otherwise southerlies or south-easterlies prevailing, and freshening in the southern portion. Seas slight to moderate, but becoming rather rough in the southern portion.

CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER

Auckland —The weather was fine but cloudy and cooler -yesterday. There was a moderate to fresh westerly wind. The barometer was steady at 30.35 inches. Wellington—The morning was cloudy, but the afternoon for the most part was sunny. A moderate northwest wind blew. The minimum temperature on Monday night was 53.6 degrees; the maximum temperature yesterday was 67.1 degrees. Dunedin—The weather was overcast throughout the day, with a slight breeze from the south-west. Toward evening the sky became threatening, and light misty rain fell. The maximum temperature was 66 degrees, and the barometer was steady about 30.15 in.
