SOCIETY OF ARTS
ELECTION OF OFFICERS
The following officers were elected at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Society of Arts held yesterday: President, Mr Geoffrey Wood; vicepresidents, Messrs A. F. Nicoll and McGregor Wright; council, Mrs A. Elizabeth Kelly, Dr. J. Guthrie, Messrs K. Ballantyne, and W. T. Trethewey; honorary treasurer. Mr R. Wallwork; honorary auditor, Mr K. Bicknell. Mr Wood, on taking the chair, asked members to assist him by securing new members. He referred to the financial loss of the last year, the remedy for ■which was a larger membership. Eight years ago the membership was more than 600 and now it was down to 450. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr S. L. Thompson for his services as president for the last two years.
