NEW ZEALAND SELECTION COMMITTEE

ONE MEMBER FROM EACH CENTRE

The New Zealand Cricket Council has appointed a committee to select the New Zealand team to tour England next year. The committee consists of four members, Messrs H. B. Whitta (Canterbury), N. C. Snedden (Auckland), A. W. Duncan (Wellington), and J. McMullan (Otago). Mr Whitta has been appointed convener.

WIN FOR HOME TEAM BY THREE WICKETS

The annual cricket match between the first elevens of Otago Boys' High School and Christ's College, which was concluded on the Christ's College cricket ground yesterday afternoon, resulted in a win by three wickets for the Christ's College team, in an exciting finish. When play continued yesterday, Otago batted and compiled 181, leaving 134 for Christ's College to win. For Otago. Hunt batted well to score 58 and although he gave one or two chances, he displayed some good strokes. H. W. Fisher bowled well for Christ's College, taking three wickets for 19 runs. Christ's College began their second innings poorly, none of the batsmen being enterprising. Reeves made 23 slowly. The result of the match was in the balance when Christ's College had lost seven wickets for less than 100 runs. Some hard hitting by Howell and Mathcson soon put the issue beyond doubt, and the Otago total was passed without • loss of a further wicket. BY SEVEN WICKETS NELSON COLLEGE BEATEN AT NEW PLYMOUTH (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) NEW PLYMOUTH, December 15. New Plymouth Boys’ High School defeated Nelson College by seven wickets in their annual cricket match. Nelson made 121 and 105, and New Plymouth made 219 and 98 for three wickets. In the second innings New Plymouth needed 93 runs in 70 minutes, and got them with two minutes to spare. MATCH WITH OTAGO POSTPONED

Owing to the health authorities refusing the Otago boys permission to travel to Christchurch, the annual matches between the Otago and Canterbury Boys’ Associations have been postponed indefinitely. SUBURBAN ASSOCIATION MEETING OF MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE Mr E. King presided at the meeting of the management committee of the Suburban Cricket Association held last evening. The Malvern Sub-Association wrote accepting December 29 and 30 as the dates for the sub-association shield match with the Suburban Association. The match will decide the holders of the sub-association shield for this season. It was decided to write to the Lyttelton Club regarding the late starting of the match with Riccarton in the third grade, and also to write regarding the state of the Lyttelton ground. The Marist Club wrote explaining the cause of a late start which was reported by an umpire. During the discussion several members objected to the actions of some umpires in reporting teams for late starting without first notifying the team’s captains of their Intention. The explanation was accepted and no further action was taken. The Sunnyside Club was granted permission to play a match against a Canterbury Association team to-day. The protest of the Shirley third grade team on account of the game against Beckenham being played after time was upheld, and the match was awarded to Shirley on the first innings. The Waltham Club was granted permission to play a match against a Tinwald team on January 1 and 2. The assistant-secretary reported that no results had been received from seven third grade teams, and a fine was imposed in all cases. FRIENDLY MATCH In a match at Barrington Street Park on Saturday, a team representing Keighley's Timber Merchants defeated the Monarch Cricket Club by 134 runs to 101. For Keighley's, Cullen 38 and Rennie 22 were the highest scorers. Bowling for Monarch, H. Millvvard took three wickets for 11 runs and P. Ellis two for 20. T. Watts 43 and G. O'Connor 18 were the highest scorers. Bowling for Keighley's, Loveridgo took five wickets for 33 runs and Rennie two for 13.
