Arrangements have been made for the Timaru Municipal Band to give a broadcast concert on January 10 from Station 3YA, Christchurch.
Rats have undermined the road in Herschel street, Slough, Bucks, and part of the surface has collapsed. One hole is about four feet in diameter, and was discovered after a heavy vehicle had passed. The weight had apparently caused the surface to cave in. The road was dug up, and found to be honeycombed with burrows. It has been necessary to go down 10 or 12 feet to the level of the sewers to carry out the repairs. The street is purely residential, and only slight trouble with rats is reported in the neighbouring houses.
