TOTARA TREES CUT DOWN IN CROWN RESERVE (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEOHAM.) PALMERSTON, N., December 14. An unusual prosecution was heard in the Magistrate’s Court to-day, when Frederick Brent Grotian, a farmer, of Komako, was charged with cutting, without the consent of the Minister, five totara trees, valued at £2l 15s, in the Crown reserve at Pohangina, which is protected under the Scenery Preservation Act. It was stated that the defendant had permission to cut dead timber in a reserve adjoining his farm to obtain pests for fencing. As insufficient of this timber was available, the defendant felled five trees, though he did not remove them. He was fined £5,
