A SALVATION ARMY INSTITUTION
MATERNITY HOSPITAL EXTENDED
NEW WING OPENED BY LORD GALWAY
(press association telegram.)
WELLINGTON, December 8
The Governor-General (Lord Galway) opened a new wing of the Salva.ion Army’s Bethany Maternity Hospital this morning. The wing provides for 21 beds in addition to 181 in the existing six other such institutions in the Dominion. Lieutenant-Commissioner Adams acknowledged the support given by the public, bringing the total to £5266 towards the cost of the new wing. He expressed thanks for the Government’s gift of £SOO. The Minister for Health (the Hon. P. Fraser) expressed the Government’s appreciation of this work, and the Mayor of Wellington (Mr T. C. A. Hislop) referred enthusiastically to the work done by the Salvation Army in the city, emphasising its wide field. Lord Galway welcomed the increasing efforts made to prevent mortality in maternity cases, and particularly expressed appreciation of the work of the Salvation Army in this direction. The new wing was chiefly for single girls, but contains a number of private beds, which it is hoped will defray the costs of the wing.
