ANNUAL MEETING AT ASHBURTON SOUND FINANCIAL POSITION ‘ The annual meeting of the Ashburton County Scottish Society was held last evening, with the chief (Mr J. Turnbull) presiding. The balance-sheet showed that the year began with a credit balance of £34 9s 4d and ended with a credit of £62 4s Bd. The annual report said that inglesides had been held in each month from April to August inclusive. These gatherings had been well attended. Hallowe’en was celebrated on October 29, the children being present in large numbers. A special ingleside was held on October 17. the net proceeds of which were handed over to the funds of the Ashburton Pipe Band. Eighteen ceilidhs were held from April to November inclusive, and the attendances had increased rapidly. A successful ball was held on September 15. On November 29 the members of the council and band, on the invitation of the Rev. R. S. Watson, attended the service at St. Andrew’s Church in honour of St. Andrew’s Day. Thanks were due to all who had helped to make the inglesides and ceilidhs a success, especially Mesdames Chilton, Dolphin, and McGregor. The membership was practically the same as that of the last two years. The following officers were elected:— Patrons, Messrs Andrew Brown and H. Sinclair: chief, Mr E. J. McConachie: masters of ceremonies, Messrs G. Chilton, and T. McGregor; honorary pipers, Pipe-Major D. Wilson, Piper H. Moptgomery, and Piper G. Robertson; accompanists, Mesdames A. C. Williams and H. J. Chapman; honorary secretary, Mr J. Turnbull; treasurer. Mr J. H. W. Bruce; auditor, Mr W. G. McDonald.
