MUNICIPAL MILK SUPPLY
* SPECIAL COMMITTEE OE INVESTIGATION VENDORS AIM’LAED MOVE “J am quite .sure that the whole of the organised trade will be only too pleased to co-operate with the committee to give all the information possible regarding the milk supply of the city,’’ stated Mr G. C. Pickett, chairman of the Christchurch Milk Vendors’ Association, yesterday, when invited to comment on the action of the Christchurch City Council in setting up a committee to investigate all aspects of a municipal milk supply. Mr Pickett said that dairymen generally were very pleased that the City Council had taken definite a“tion. and that the feeling among producers and vendors generally was (hat if the council was not prepared to carry out the proposals suggested by the trade—the sotting up of a milk board—the only alternative was municipalisation. On the present low prices it was certain that producers would not continue to supoly the citv, but would change over to butter factories. Although the committee set up by the council on Monday evenirtg may hold a preliminary meeting shortly, it is not considered likely that any move will bo made toward taking evidence until the New Year. At the first meeting of the committee a chairman will have to be appointed.
