Grants for Lincoln College
MINISTER TO MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS Most favourable recommendations are to be made to the Government by the Minister for Agriculture, the Hon. W. Lee Martin, for suitable monetary assistance to be given to Canterbury ■ Agricultural College, Lincoln, to permit the college to carry out urgent and necessary repairs to fences and buildings and for the regeneration of flocks and herds. A visit was paid to the college yesterday by the Minister. Questions of grants for new buildings are also to be considered with a view to obtaining authority for the. expenditure of a substantial sum spread over a period of years. Recommendations for the latter are to be submitted by the board of governors of the college after the whole question has been investigated by the new director of the college, Professor R- E. Hudson. The Minister made a most thorough inspection of the buildings, plant, and livestock, and at the end of it he expressed appreciation of the work done for the advancement ot agriculture not only in the South Island but through the whole Dominion. He said he would, on returning to Wellington, confer with the Minister for Finance and would make most favourable recommendations along the lines indicated. . The Minister was accompanied by Mr A. H. Cockayne, Director-Gen-eral of Agriculture. They were shown over the college by Professor Hudson, Professor F. W. Hilgendorf, Mr W. O. Rennie, chairman of the board of governors, and Mr J. R. D. Johns, a member of the board.
