POWER BOATING

NEW BRIGHTON CLUB FIRST RACE OF SEASON HELD Only four boats entered for the New Brighton Power Boat Club's first race of the season, which was held on the estuary on Saturday afternoon. The race was held over the usual course of five miles from the Pleasant Point jetty to the tripod at Redeliffs and return. When the race slat ted, condition? were j ideal, with a making tide, and practically j no wind, but a strong easterly formed | a choppy sea before the scratch boat, j Shooting Star, started on the journey, j Rough water seemed to suit .303, which had gained on her handicap of two minutes from Shooting Star at the turn, but soon after beginning the ret,urn journey .303 developed engine trouble and retired from the race. In spite of the absence of competition there was a spectacular finish between Nancy and Shooting Star, the last-named boat ” overhauling the leader within 50 yards of the post.
