tPEESS ESSOCIATIOE TELEOK4M.) WELLINGTON, November 14 Quick work by eight detectives resulted ini the arrest, conviction and unmg of four men on bookmaking charges. Bets were taken by the men changed at 11.30 and they were before the court at noon. Fines of £2O and costs were imposed by Mr J. H. Luxford, SJVL, on each man. They were guest Rowland Waters, a barman at the Foresters’ Arms Hotel; Robert Wall3ce. a linesman, Western Park Hotel; Renjaipin Bailie, a barman at the Alhambra Hotel; and George Edward Crofts, a mechanic, Pier Hotel. It was stated by counsel that all Were in a small way. Fourteen days Were given in which to pay.
