WELLINGTON. November 14 Two shipments of cheese from ih* Hopelands Dairy Company, near Wcodville, sent to Wellington for export by the lonic and Port Wyndham, have not been loaded because of an incident at the factory. _ . . It has been stated in Wellington that the Creameries. Cheese. Butter Factories and Dairy- Employees Lmo-t. by representations to the waterside workers, prevented 242 crates of cawe being leaded, but according to mloimation available at Wellington tins morning, the trouble originated in the dismissal of an employee of tne dairy company at Hopelands because he did not have an engine-driver s certificate. It is considered that this man enlisted the sympathy of friends on the waterfront, with the result that cheese from the factory has been boycotted. Enquiries on the waterfront met with the bare statement that "it is understood that the cheese is still m store.’’ . . . . . Referring to allegations cf mtimidaton and victimisation to prevent workers in the Hopelands dairy factory claiming overtime. Mr J. G. Brechin, secretary of the Hopelands Dairy Company, denied the statement. He said it was untrue in substance or ' fact. Mr Brechin said that he was not prepared to discuss the case to which the union referred until the directors had an opportunity of discussing the position. The company was not going to take dictation from unions or the Government as to whom it engaged m its factorv.
