THE NINETEENTH CROSSING
NOTABLE FLIGHTS OVER TASMAN ♦ MISS BATTEN HOLDS RECORD Mr Clark’s crossing of the Tasman is the nineteenth made by air. Although one of the most notable, his flight was not the fastest. His time was 12 hours 51 minutes, and the record for the journey is 9 hours 29 minutes, established by Miss Jean Batten from Sydney to Auckland, last month. Me Clark said before beginning his flight that he was not out to break records, but simply to fly home as quickly as his machine would normally go, and as the weather permitted. His flight is the twelfth from Australia, the first of which was the famous flight of Sir Charles Kingsford Smith from Sydney to Christchurch in 1928. The following is a list of the flights made across the Tasman:— To New Zealand Time. 1928 —Kingsford Smith ~ Hhr 25min 1931—Guy Menzies .. 1933 —Kingsford Smith ~ 14hr lOmin 1933 — C. T. P.
