AMERICAN LABOUR DISPUTE
REPORTED EXPULSION OF UNION LEADER (Received November 13, 7.5 p.m.) TAMPA (Florida), November 12. The executive council of the American Federation of Labour is reported to have divided by nine votes to eight in favour, of the expulsion of Mr J. L. Lewis and his committee of industrial organisation. It is expected that the expulsion motion will be introduced when the convention meets on Monday. [According to a message received on August 7 the council of the American Federation of Labour ordered the suspension within 30 days of the unions headed by Mr J. L. Lewis, president of the Mine Union, and having a membership of 1,000.000, unless they dissolved the so-called Committee of Industrial Organisation, which was formed to further industrial, as against craft, unionisation within the federation. The council declared it could not tolerate the existence of a rival organisation and that a dispute might threaten the disruption of the federation.]
