Mrs F. A- Nixon, who has been spending a few weeks with her sisters at “The Lakes,” Kaikoura, has returned to Christchurch and is staying at “Khandallah,” Papanui road. She intends to leave in April for a trip to England. Mr and Mrs J. P. Kalaugher (Auckland), who are visiting Christchurch, will leave for the north tonight. Mr and Mrs L. J. Bayfield (Chateau Tongariro) are paying a short visit to Christchurch. Mr Bayfield has been visiting the West Coast, and will leave on Monday for the Hermitage, Mount Cook. Mrs P. H. N. Freeth and her sister, Miss E. Brown (Ashburton), left on Thursday for Blenheim for _ a holiday trip. They intend flying from Blenheim to Palmerston North and afterwards visiting Tongariro and Napier. Mr and Mrs Purcell Hunter-Wes-ton (“Hunterslea,” Albury) have returned from a visit to Dunedin. Mr and Mrs Colin Douglas (Waimate) have been visitors to Christchurch for the show. Mr and Mrs Fred Humphries (Gisborne), who have been visitors to Christchurch for the races, will leave for the north to-night. Mr and Mrs Lionel Penny (Nelson), and Mr and Mrs Colin Corsbie (Oamaru) are visitors to Christchurch for the wedding of Miss Edith Penny and Mr Phillip Corsbie, which will take place at St. Mary’s Church, Merivale, at 3 o’clock to-day. The Hon. Vincent Ward and Mrs Ward (Heretaunga), who have been in Invercargill for a few days, have returned to Christchurch, and will leave for the north on Monday night.

Miss G. Trolove, “The Shades,” Marlborough, is the guest of Mrs Frank Reid, Fendalton. Mrs W. F. Diedrichs (“Eden Wear,” Lower Kokatahi, West Coast) and her two sons, who have been visiting Christchurch, left on the return journey yesterday. Mrs A. B. Park (Timaru) is visiting Christchurch. Mrs F. A. Rollinson (Studholme Junction) is a visitor to Christchurch for the Driscoll-McKenzie wedding, which will take place today. Mrs B. B. Howell, who has been visiting Christchurch, has returned to her home at Cave. Mr and Mrs G. Willers (Ashburton), who have been the guests of Mr and Mrs E. Priestnall (Riccarton road), will motor to Hanmer Springs this morning, accompanied by Mrs Priestnall. Mr and Mrs G. Simpson (Timaru) will arrive in Christchurch to-day to attend the Driscoll-McKenzie wedding. Miss Dorothy Walton (Tjmaru) is staying with Miss Helen Kerr (“Belmont,” Cave). Mrs O. ■T. Harris, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs C. A. More than 150 were present this afternoon to hear an address given to the women’s institutes in Marlborough by Mrs Alfred Watt, president of the Associated Countrywomen of the World, who arrived this morning to begin a tour of the South Island, She will go on to Nelson to-morrow, and cn Mondny will travel down to Westport, and then on to Christchurch and the southern districts. Mrs Watt, who was accompanied by her secretary, Miss E. Smart, of Ottawa, spoke for more than an hour, and traversed in detail the work accomplished at the last conference of women’s institutes held at Washington.

She expressed the opinion this morning that Vv omen’s institute work in New Zealand was remarkably well organised, and was fulfilling its objects with the greatest efficiency.
