ABOUT WRESTLING

TO THE EDITOR Of THB PRESS. Sir,—On Monday I nearly wrote to your paper to say what I thought the result of the McCready v. Savoldi bout would be. Not that I had a premonition of the result. One can generally be certain that when McCready is wrestling he will either win or draw, even if his opponent is an ex-world’s champion. Isn’t it marvellous how a wrestler who has been champion of the world (or one of the champions— I understand there are about six at the present moment) can have a fall over his opponent, the match in hand and then lose in the last round. It is not impossible, but one would think that when a man had the match in hand, and such an important match, he would have “foxed,” “played for time,” and won the bout. Talking about champions, I see we have two British Empire champions now, Walker and McCready. And why not? We’ll soon have a world’s champion by the look of it. America has six world’s champions in the heavyweight division, according to the latest “Ring” magazine. Various associations claim their best man as champion. I think Wee Willie Davis is a good sport. ITs marvellous how he “comes up” again after .losing so often. Why don’t they allow him a win occasionally for encouragement?— Yours, etc., ELBOW JOLT.
