VETERANS AFFIRM LOYALTY
—: —♦ EXPRESSIONS TO GOVERNORGENERAL Their loyalty to the throne was affirmed by Christchurch veterans of the South African War yesterday, when their club-rooms in Oxford terrace were inspected by the GovernorGeneral, Lord Galway. His Excellency- assured the veterans that he would convey to his Majesty, the King, the affirmation of loyalty. His Excellency was , introduced to the 40 veterans and spoke to them informally, befbre inspecting the rooms. The president of the association. Mr W. A. Beck, welcomed the GovernorGeneral, and expressed the hope that before long his Excellency would be able to spend an entire evening at the rooms. A former GovernorGeneral; Sir Charles Fergusson, had spent an evening with the veterans, and they looked forward to another similar occasion. “I hope I can find time to spend an evening with you,” said his Excellency, “and I am always glad to do What I can to further the people’s recollection of what was done for them by the veterans.” He would convey to King Edward, who had himself seen service in the Great War, the expressions of loyalty, and he knew that his Majesty had. a warm spot in his heart for the veterans of the Empire. ___________
