NAVAL APPOINTMENTS IN AMERICA
* ADMIRAL LEAHY PROMOTED (Received November 11, 8.45 p.m.) WASHINGTON, November 10. Mr Roosevelt has appointed Admiral William Leahy to / succeed Rear-Admiral W. H. Standley as chief of naval operations, on the latter’s retirement on January 1. Admiral Standley is retiring at his own request. He is 64 years of age and has completed 45 years’ service. Rear-Admiral Claude Bloch has been elevated to admiral and wul relieve Admiral Leahy as commander of the battle force.
