MISS JEAN BATTEN
The editor of “The Press” has received Is each from Jean, Kalapoi Post Office, and "A Sefton Jean” towards the fund Suggested by H.B. for a presentation to Miss Jean Batten from "Canterbury Jeans.”
In England there is only one craftsman who can skilfully “put an egg together again.” He is Mr William Candy, of Cheltenham. Many birds’ egg collectors have been grateful to him for restoring valuable specimens which had been smashed. One such egg taken to him was that of a great auk. When its owner walked into his shop the egg was in 20 pieces, but by skilful manipulation the Cheltenham specialist performed the seemingly impossible task of restoration. He does his delicate work with invisable rivets and special cements. Though in his seventieth year, he can still be seen at his work all day.
