Fennell spoke for the Bible class, Sports Meeting Postponed As wet weather has interfered with P re P ara tion of the new race tracks of _ the. Rangiora Amateur Athletic and Cycling Clubs at Dudley Park, the combined sports meeting, which was to have been held last evening was postponed for a week. Armistice Day Armistice Day pased almost without recognition in the" streets of Rangiora yesterday, and the two minutes’ silence was observed by only a few of those residents who were in the town. Short services were held at the primary and secondary schools. There was an impressive ceremony at the Rangiora Borough School where the headmaster (Mr C. D. Gilling) spoke to the pupils on the significance of the anniversary. The silence was observed Last Post sounded by Bandsmaster H. T. Oates, of the Rangiora Brass Band, the flag saluted, and the National Anthem sung. At the Rangiora High School the pupils stood in silence at 11 a.m. The Mayor (Mr C. W. In recognition of her services to the John Knox Presbyterian Women’s Guild, Mrs R. Mclntosh was presented with a pony at the last meeting of the guild for the year yesterday afternoon. Mr H, W. Mitchell has joined the staff of the Rangiora Post Office, on transfer from Culverden. He was stationed at Rangiora some years ago. Cricket and Tennis Matches in the competitions of the North Canterbury Cricket and Tennis Sub-Associations, which were postponed because of the rain last Saturday, will be played next Saturday. Regent Theatre Conrad Veidt, the magnetic screen star, with Helen Vinson and Noah Beery, will be seen at the Regent Theatre, Rangiora, this evening in ‘•‘King of the Damned,” a dramatic story of Devil’s Island. Veidt makes it more than a thrilling drama of men; he sweetens and makes it more human with the portrayal of his love for the commandant’s daughter. Seats may be reserved at Watson’s, telephone 202. ARRANGEMENTS FOR AMURI ; SHOW The president, Mr W. B, McMillan, presided over a good attendance at a committee meeting of the Amuri Agricultural and Pastoral Association held recently. A motion of sympathy was passed to the Rutherford family on the death of Mr A. M. Rutherford, an old member and keen supporter of the association. The credit balance in current account was shown as £7 4s 2d. The secretary reported that the promise of several trophies had been received, and that Messrs J. L. Macfarlane and G. Ferguson had promised to replace cups won by them outright last year. The committee then revised a good part of next year’s schedule, and a committee of three women was set up to revise the women’s section of the shed exhibits. Messrs T. Beaven, E. Beaven, and K. Dunbar were elected members of the association. £lag five hundred at LINCOLN A flag 500 tournament was held in the Public Hall last evening in aid of the “Curtain and stage improvement” fund. Arrangements were in the capable hands of Mrs W. Hopley. Prizes were won by the following;— Messrs J. Partridge, C. Anderson, and A. Partridge, and consolation prizes by Mr and Mrs J. Hudson. Personal Miw Mahnke has returned from Palmerston North, where she attended the funeral of her sister, Mrs Elizabeth Tod. Mr and Mrs Harry Greaves have returned from the North Island. Miss A. Hgughton has returned to Lincdln after spending a holjday in StUnner and attending the Plunket Society’s conference in Christchurch.

DUNSANDEL SPORTS ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL ELECTION OF OFFICERS

The annual meeting of the Duhsandel Sports Association was held, with Mr N. J. Brown presiding. Sympathy was extended to Mr and Mrs W. Adams in the death of their son, and to Sir R. Heaton Rhodes (patron for many years) and Mr J. Mackie, in their illness.

A report on recent extensive improvements -to the racing track was made by Mr E. J. Chatterton. Tire statement of accounts gave the total revenue for the year as £157 6s Id. There was a credit balance of £39 2s.

Officers elected were: —Patrons, the Hon. Sir R. Heaton Rhodes and Messrs H. E. Herring, M.P.. D. Jones, and H. F. Wright; president, Mr N. J. Brown; vice-presidents, Messrs A. Macpherson, F. A suggestion was made that events for amateurs should be included in the programme for the New Year’s Day sports, and the secretary was asked to communicate with the Amateur Athletic Association in Christchurch.

HEALTH STAMP CAMPAIGN

AT OXFORD

A public meeting convened by the postmaster (Mr H. V. Ward) was held recently in the Agricultural and Pastoral Hall to consider ways and means of furthering the health stamp campaign in the Oxford district. The following committee was set up; Mesdames W. J. Skurr, Comyns, Hawke. P. Thompson, W. R. Johnstone. Ward, Judson, Bowman. E. McGrath. Misses Ryde and Waterman, Dr. Minty. Captain Baughan. lire Revs. H. F. Ault and A. Liversedge, Messrs Webber, Skurr. Virtue. E. McGrath, E. Lassen, W. H. Knowles (chairman), D. N. Melrose (honorary secretary), and H. V. Ward 'treasurer). After discussion, it was decided to split the district into areas and to make a house-to-house canvass during the last two weeks in November, each member of the committee undertaking to be responsible for the raising of al least £l. Details were left to the chairman, secretary, and treasurer.

TENNIS MATCH ATT KAIKOURA

The women members of the Kaikoura Tennis Club recently paid a visit, to the St. Michael’s Tennis Club and played a friendly match. A pleasant afternoon was spent and a dainty tea was enjoyed by all the women.
