The Dominion Observatory’s weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough* issuid it S pan.* and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows; „ Mettteate t&A variable winds at flrri, with aonth-westerlles predominatliic; but Utter, westerlies or nor%westeri|es and frejhoußf. Weather fair to fine and mud to warm; seas rather rough.to rough north of Katkoora, elsewhere moderate.

Although still very low, pressures are more uniform to-day over the New Zealand area. A series of rather intense westerly depressions, how- • ever, extends from southern Australia across the Tasman Sea. Winds—Moderate winds, between south-westerly and westerly at first, but soon becoming more generally westerly and again increasing in force. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Rather rough to rough on the West Coast; rough about Foveaux Strait; elsewhere slight to moderate, but later rising about Cook Strait. Eastern Tasman-South-westerly winds at first in the northern portion; otherwise westerlies prevailing, moderate to strong generally and of gale force at times m the southern portion; seas rather rough to rough. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather in Christchurch yesterday was sunny in the morning but overcast in the afternoon. There was a light easterly * wind, Which became stronger later in the day. The maximum temperature was 66.6 degrees. At 1 o’clock this morning the weather was clear and calm. The temperature was 60 degrees. The

barometer, after rising during the

evening, waa steady at 28.52 inches.

Auckland—The weather yesterday was fine but cloudy. There was a fresh south-westerly wind, and light rain fell in the morning. The sky cleared later, and there was bright sunshine in the afternoon. Temperatures were mild, and the barometer was steady at 29.50 in. Wellington—Yesterday wag a very pleasant day, with continuous sunshine, and a light northerly wind. The minimum temperature on Wednesday night was 65.1 degrees; the maximum yesterday was 68.3 degrees. Dunedin—Though the sun shone brightly yesterday morning, there was a cool wind, and the temperature did not rise above 62 degrees. The sky became overcast in the afternoon, and toward evening light rain fell. The barometer was rising last night.
