CHANGE OF NAME NOT FAVOURED
DECISION OF SOUTH ISUAND
MOTOR UNION
A proposal to change the name of the South Island Motor Union to make it descriptive of a federation of the South Island automobile associations, was rejected by the executive of the union last evening. It was decided to recommend to the member associations that the words ‘‘incorporating the automobile associations of the South Island," should be printed below the title on all documents headed S.I.M.U. The change of name proposed by the Automobile Association. Southland, was opposed mainly on the ground that it might have an adverse effect on the union’s insurance scheme.
Mr H. C. Harley said that the insurance scheme had been built up under the name of “South Island Motor Union Mutual Insurance' Association," and the change might cause confusion. If a change were made it should be In conjunction with the North Island Motor Union.
Mr W. H. Carey said that a change of name might injure the prestige Of the union, quite apart from any effect on the insurance scheme.
