CANTERBURY CENTRE’S REPORT
A SUBSTANTIAL LOSS SHOWN
The annual report of the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, to be presented at the annual general meeting next Tuesday, says that the season’s workings showed a financial loss, largely because of the heavy expenses of the national championships. Experience over the last few years had shown that the normal workings of a season were not sufficient to provide enough income to balance the centre’s expenditure, and It was necessary for some outstanding event such
as an-overseas visit to be included each year in the centre’s activities. This was a matter requiring Careful consideration, as it seemed questionable if the taxation on clubs could be increased because of the heavy fees which the centre wag compelled to collect for the New Zealand council—£3o 19s had been collected by the centre from the clubs for the New Zealand COUUCU lilt SfWMf. There were, however, projects 6z an overseas visit in the comtui Mam and wm. if *”ccesrful. should Mp the miHOn. water p«o h*d h*a« msead an a much firmar durati tht m* son, the report cemmuad, and competitions were held reguttny each wed. Good entriet received and inter* est wae maintained throughout the season. The venture showed a small financial lost, hut this was faought to be justified by the success of the competition, I* Newell had been the outstanding performer in the Canterbury team in the New Zealand senior national championships, having won the 440 yards, 880 yards, and the one mile.
