BIG TOURING PARTY

CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE CONGRESS

DELEGATES ARRIVE IN

CHRISTCHURCH

The overseas delegates to the congress of the Federated Chambers of Commerce of the British Empire arrived in Christchurch yesterday morning from Wellington. During the morning they were welcomed by the Canterbury chamber at a morning tea at Ballantynes. and later they were extended a civic reception by mo Mayor, Mr J. W. Beanland, at the City Council chambers. In the evening they attended the Regent Theatre. In the afternoon many attended a garden party at the home of Mr Norton Francis, president of the Associated Chambers of Commerce of New Zealand, and Mr V. E. Hamilton, president of the Canterbury chamber, and Mrs Hamilton were “at home to the visitors early in the evening. Others went for motor drives, ' and some played golf on the Christchurch club s course at Shirley. , This morning inspections will be made of several factories, under the guidance of the Canterbury Manufacturers” Association, and there will also be golf at Shirley. A party will visit the homestead of Mr J. H. Grigg, “Longbeach.” in the Ashburton district, and others will go to Akaroa by motor. In the afternoon the whole party will visit “Otahuna,” the home of the Hon. Sir E. Heaton Rhodes, at Tai Tapu. The visiting men will be entertained at a smoke concert at the Caledonian Hal! in the evening, and the ladies will be the guests of the Christchurch Women’s Club. The party was so numerous that it was divided, and the visitors are staying at Warner’s Hotel, United Service Hotel, and Clarendon Hotel.
