The freedom of the borough of Kidderminster will be conferred on the Minister for Finance (the Hon. W. Nash) when he visits England. The “Worcester Journal” states that the Kidderminster Town Council has decided to confer this honour on Mr Nash, who was born at Kidderminster, and who received his early education at St. John’s School. The only other living freemen of Kidderminster are the Rt. Hon. Stanley Baldwin, the Rt. Hon. S. M. Bruce, and the. Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates.—Press Association.

Captain P. S. Peterson, harbourmaster at Wellington, began his annual leave yesterday. Mr R. H. Marlow, sales representative of 20th Century Fox, is visiting Christchurch. Mr B. L. Dallard, Controller-General of Prisons, has returned to Wellirgton from a visit to the South Island.

Before the congress of the Empire Chambers of Commerce adjourned for lunch at Wellington yesterday, Mrs Hooper, on behalf of the Brisbane Chamber of Commerce, presented Lord Elibank, the president, with an attache case, a beautiful piece of inlay work, of various Queensland timbers, as a memento of the congress. Lord Elibank acknowledged it gratefully, recalling a trip to the tablelands inland from Cairns, whence the timbers came.—Press Association.

Mr E. K. D. Hurdler, manager of the Te Aroha branch of the Bank of Australasia, has been transferred to the Newton branch, Sydney. Mr A. W. Gordon, accountant at the Hamilton branch, has been appointed manager at Morrinsville, and Mr R. G. Fawkner, manager of the Morrinsville branch, has been transferred to Te Aroha.

Mr V. F. B. Rogers, manager of the Dannevirke branch of the National Bank of New Zealand, will retire at the end of the month, and will be succeeded by Mr W. Nairn, of the bank’s audit staff. Mr Rogers has been manager of the Dannevirke branch for 13 years. The Hon. W. Hayward. M.L.C., and the Hon. G. R. Hunter, M.L.C., returned from ton by the Maori yesterday morning. The Hon. E. R. Davis, M.L.C., of Auckland, arrived in Christchurch yesterday.

A motion of condolence with the relatives of the late Mr Richard Moore was passed by the Lyttelton Harbour Board yesterday. Mr Moore was a member of the board from 1905 to 1929, and was a past chairman.

Mr A. L. Cropp was a passenger from Wellington by yesterday morning’s steamer express.

Mr F. P. Morrison, of Blenheim, arrived from Wellington yesterday morning. Mr G. M. Smith, general manager of John Burns and Company, Ltd., Auckland, is at present on a visit to Christchurch.

The Wanganui Presbytery has unanimously nominated the Rev. W. H. Howes, of Otautau, as Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand for 1937. Mr J. Roy Smith, secretary of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, returned from Wellington yesterday by aeroplane.

Mr Colin Wyatt, one of the most eminent of English ski runners, who has spent the last three weeks climbing on ski in the Mount Cook region, returned to Christchurch yesterday and left later for Wellington, Mr Paul Pascoe, Associate of the R.1.8.A., London, who has been in England for several years furthering his architectural studies, will return to Christchurch before Christmas. Mr Pascoe will be associated with Mr Cecil Wood, architect, of Christchurch.
