CORONATION PROGRAMME BEING PREPARED

OVERSEAS EDITION TO BE READY IN JANUARY

(TBOM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)

LONDON, September 5,

The officials in charge of King George V. Jubilee Trust Fund, working at St James’s Palace, have well tn hand the details of the special souvenir programme of the King Edward VIII. Coronation service. By his Majesty’s permission, the overseas edition is being prepared. What they are most anxious about is that distributors in all countries overseas should let them know how many copies are likely to be required to i.ieet the local demands. It is expected that millions of these artistic and historic brochures will be put into circulation and the desire is to avoid disappointment to would-be purchasers. The issue, it is anticipated, will be ready in January, and may be shipped early in February. The contents will include the order of the Coronation service, and as this service is to be broadcast throughout the world, it is anticipated tha't listeners will like to have in front of them the actual order. There will also be an explanatory account of the 16 phases of the long and elaborate ceremony. Contributors will include the King himesjf the Archbishop of Canterbury. the Poet Laureate (Mr John Masefield). Mr John water, and Mr Hector Bolitho. There will be a detailed programme of the long procession route, and all New Zealanders who know London will like to accompany in spirit the movements of the King's progress. Each page oi the 32 will be interesting, end the orice mentioned Is two shillings. Evervthmg possible is being done to make the overseas edition a worthy memento of a great occasion. The Boy Scouts’ Association has been honoured by being selected to co-operate in selling this official souvenir. TTte association has branches in every Dominion and almost all the Crown Colonies, so many thousands of scouts wiU have the opoortunity of taking part in this Empire-wide grod turn. It will be remembered that 3500 London scopes sold the official programmes of the jubilee at the procession in London last year. King George’s Jubilee Trust was inaugurated as a national thank-offering on the occasion of the silver jubilee of King George V. Its work continues as a permanent memorial to a greatlyloved monarch and a great reign. The objects of King George’s Jubilee Trust are to promote the welfare of youth, to assist the many voluntary organisations in the mother country which exist with that aim, and to provide the means for healthy recrea-r tion and self-development. The trust is helping to provide playing fields, camp sites, youth hortels and other opportunities for healthy outdoor activity. As part of its “indoor” programme, the trust is assisting in the creation and equipment of club premises, v. orksbops and other social centres for citizenship and cultural, development wherever the need for them exists. It is bringing to rural and industrial areas at present neglected through lack of funds new opportunities for the encouragement of ability and the cultivation of craftsmanship. i
