THE TRAMWAY BOARD ELECTION
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir, —Your correspondent, “Remembrance,” whose letter appears in this morning’s issue, makes a very positive statement which I wish to question. He states, “The Christchurch citizen who does not know that the local Labour movement is dominated and directed by the Trades Hall junta is living in a world of delusion. It is not worth proving the obvious; every sensible person knows it.” I would like this very positive person to tell us just what he means by a “junta” and how it is constituted, how its domination is practised, etc. I know something of the constitution of the New Zealand Labour party, its organisation and inner working. I resent most emphatically such a libellous statement as the foregoing, and before proceeding any further in the matter, will await something more definite from your correspondent. Having been secretary of the Tramway Employees’ Union from 1912 until 1919. I may be able to entertain your readers presently with some information as to how and for whom the Christchurch tramways were previously managed, or otherwise. —Yours, etc HIRAM HUNTER. October 7, 1936.
