ANOTHER WIN FOR MISS

Miss Valmai Fleming added to her long list of championship titles yesterday when she won the North Canterbury ladies’ championship at Harewood with the comfortable margin of 11 strokes from the runner-up, Miss Helen Buchanan, a young and rapidly-improving Shirley player, who has been very prominent in her club this season. Conditions for play yesterday were excellent and the scores were much better than on the previous day. Miss Fleming, - who took 84 for, the first round on Tuesday, was 77 for the second round yesterday; Miss Buchanan was 90 for the first round and 82 for the second, and Mrs A. McKillop, who was 92 for the first round, ran into third place with 83 yesterday. Miss Fleming won the North Canterbury title once previously—in 1933. In 1994 Miss Edna White-Parsons was the winner, and she retained the title last year.

The junior championship was won by Mrs W. O. Gray, of Hororata, who In the second round improved 10 strokes on her score of the previous day, when, with a score of 101, she occupied the position

of sixth equal. Miss Nancy Frater, who led in the first round with a score of 98, was 95 yesterday, giving her a total of 193. one stroke behind Mrs Gray. In the handicap match, Miss R. Cracroft Wilson and Miss M. Grennell tied in the silver medal division and Miss Grennell won on a count back. Mrs Gray won in the junior medal division with a net score of 69 and reduced her handicap. Miss G. Williams also reduced her handicap. There were 12 entries for the teams match for the Bridge Cup, which was w«jn by the Shirley A team, with the Port Levy team, second. The fourball match was won by Misses M. and L. Grennell. of Port Levy, with a score of 5 up, and the putting competition was won by Mrs A. R. Blank. The prizes were presented by Mr A. R. Blank, president of the Harewood Golf Club.
