FASTER PACIFIC SERVICE
PLANS OF AUSTRALIAN SYNDICATE
SYDNEY, October 6,
Mr Brendan Dowling, a Sydney accountant and company director, who arrived in Sydney by the Mariposa, said that a syndicate had been formed in Sydney to establish a faster transport service between North America, New Zealand, and Sydney. Two liners' would be placed on the trans-Pacific service as soon as was practicable.
That a powerful overseas syndicate was considering the construction of two fast passenger vessels of approximately 10.000 tons each for the Syd-ney-Auckland-Los Angeles or Sydney-Auckland-Vancouver service was indicated by Mr Brendan Dowling, a Sydney business man. who was returning from England and America by the Mariposa, on his arrival in Auckland on Friday. Although it would be some months before the final decision was made. Mr Dowling said that actually plans and specifications of the vessels had been prepared and. details of the organisation were now being discussed. It was hoped to shorten' travelling time across the Pacific, and, with that end in view, the vessels would have an average speed of at least 24 knots. They would be built especially to suit tropical conditions, and would provide every facility for comfort and convenience.
