GIFT PARTIES

A ‘Variety” gift party was held at the home of Mr and. Mts Walker (North Beach' In honour of Miss Beth Walker, whose marriage will take place shortly. Misses Enid Gardner. Esxrsa Jobes, and Daphne Walker were hostesses, and Mr B. W. Rice acted as master of ceremonies. Dancing and competitions were enjoyed, and items were given by Mrs Wilcock, Mr Wilcock, Mr Norman Carson, Miss Lbls Kirk; Mr and Mm Norman Carson, Miss Kirk and Mr Carson; Mr Walter Rhodes. OBITUARY

MRS S. GUMMING

Mrs Gumming, wife of Mr S. Gumming, at one time postmaster at Masterton, died this week. She lived in Masterton for 20 years. She was a daughter of the late Mr G. W. Schroder, one of the pioneer settlers who arrived in the Nelson district in 184% and was a sister of the late Mrs Thomas Carter, formerly of Hillesden, add Burley. Marlborough.

MRS P. H. MULES

After a very brief Illness Emily Cowper, wife of Dr, P. H. Mules, of Woodville, died on Sunday. Mrs Mules, who was the daughter of Mr and Mrs R. Tennant, of WoodVille, was educated at Nelson Girls*' College, She leaves, besides her husband, five children—Dr. Charles Mules (Auckland), Mr J. Mules (Wellington). Misses Mary and Margaret Mules (Wellington)., and Phyllis (a pupil at thr, Marsden Col* legiate School, Wellington). . ..

DANCE AT CUST
