ROTARY LUNCHEON
MR W. J. HUNTER TALKS ON HIS TRAVELS
An account of his recent trip to England was given yesterday by Mr W. J. Hunter at a luncheon of the Rotary Club. Mr E. Hitchcock presided. Travelling had had an increased vogue in the last few years, said Mr Hunter, Shipping companies had given it more publicity, more people travelled, and they were better looked after. In the Suez Canal several troopships were seen, and the fact that war-was going on- was brought home to the, travellers. ■
At Naples Mr Hunter heard ’ that people had been seen spitting at the visitors. 'He had found most of the people very friendly, but actually there was considerable' hostility to the British among the Italians. Spain seemed a very peaceful country, and it would have been hard to believe that, it would soon be in the grip of a civil war. Mr -Hunter described several ceremonies he had seen in London,, and 'also mentioned the famous budget case, part of which he attended and heard some of the evidence in the charge against Mr J. H. Thomas. “The conclusion that I came to when I returned was that there was no place I would rather live In than New Zealand,” said Mr Hunter. “It was an experience I would not miss, but I was glad to be back."
