(PBKBS ASSOCIATION TXLSGBAM.I

AUCKLAND, October 6.

In view of the Auckland spring faceting on Saturday and Moiiday there was a good deal of fast work a* Ellerslie this morning, when the semifinal gallops took place. The course proper, with the poles 40 feet out, was in most demand. The No. 3 grass, sand, tan, hurdles, and steeplechase tracks were also open. . The best efforts of the morning were those of Red Manfred, Flood tide, Kelly, and KarL Kilonsoa, impressed more than -High Star, doing six furlongs in Imin 23sec, the first three being done in 39 3-ssec. Floodtide and Knight of Australia, with Mai de Mer to assist them over the last six furlongs, ran a mile and a quarter in 2min 18sec, the last six being done in Imin 24 4-ssec; Floodtide finished in front of Knight of Australia, and his effort will bring him into favour for the Mitchelson Cup. Gay Princess, Dialogue, and Caliente finished in that order. Six furlongs were covered in Imin 23 4-ssec, the first three being done in 39 3-ssec. Dialogue is coming to hand nicely. After getting the worst of the start, Salva finished several lengths in front of Backblock, doing five furlongs in Imin 7 3-ssec—a good effort tPr novices. , . Kelly, after completing the first three furlongs in 38 3-ssec, got to the end of six in Imin 18 3-ssec, the best of the morning over the distance. Jewelled Girdle was a shade in front of Valspear, doing six furlongs in Imin 21 sec. The last half-mile was covered in 53 l-ssec. The only gallop over a mile was that of Manawhenua and Royal Appellant in Imin 45 2-ssec. The last six were covered in Imin 20sec. They were together at the finish. Royal Appellant, on the outside, again worked nicely. After breakfast. Red Manfred did a mile and a quarter in 2min 16 4-ssec, the last seven furlongs being covered in Imin 33sec, the final three being done in 41 2-ssec —a first-class effort. Finishing on well, Bon Star did half a mile in 52 3-ssec, doing it nicely. The Great Northern Guineas candidates, Golden Blonde and Mandamus, went five furlongs in Imin 6 l-ssec, the first two taking 25 3-ssec. Golden Blonde finished a couple of lengths in front, but Mandamus could have been closer.
