Christchurch Drainage Board 4 4 per cent, debentures, due 1963, had Business at £lO6 10s. Bank of New Zealand were firmer with buyers and business at 39s 2d. National Bank of Australasia £lO paid were firmer on buyers’ offers, £l4 4s 6d. New Zealand Insurance were easier at 60s, and more were offered at 60s sd, buyers at 59s 9d. New Zealand Refrigerating fully paid remained unaltered with sellers and business at 19s—the 10s paid had dealings at 9s Id and 9s 2d, buyers staying in at the higher price; sellers at 9s 3d. Anthony Hordern were easier with sellers at 18s 3d. Australian Iron and Steel preference had dealings at 25s 9d. 25s lOd and 25s lid, and more were offered at the highest price; buyers at 25s XOd. AUCKLAND. October 6.

The only notable change in the grain and produce markets since the last report has been an easing in the price of potatoes. Substantial shipments have come to hand from the south, and were it not that consumption remains at a high level, a greater decline in prices would have occurred. As it is, the price is from £1 to £1 10s a ton lower than it was a week ago. Quotations are:—Table white £8 17s 6d, red £9 7s 6d.

Quotations for horse feed are unchanged. Oats are very firm in the south, and B Cartons are still selling locally at 4s 5d a busheL The demand for chaff at £8 7s 6d a ton shows signs of easing off, as is usual at this time of year. Maize is unchanged m price, but at 6s lid a bushel it does not enjoy a ready sale. Barley prices are unaltered. A good demand continues for pollard and bran at late rates. The market for onions is now chiefly dependent upon Canadian importations. which are of excellent -quality, and sell at 15s 0d per 1001b.

PLEASANT POINT There was a slight drop in prices to ail departments at the fortnightly stock sale held at Pleasant Point on Monday. In the fat cattle section there was an entry of approximately 90 head, and values eased by- about 20s. The quality was only moderate. The values were:—Fat steers £8 17s fid to £lO 12s fid, fat heifers, best £7 to £8 2s fid, medium £4 7s fid to £6 2s fid, light £2 7s fid to £3 17s fid fat cows, beat £7 17s 6d to £9 17s fid. medium £5 17s fid to £8 17s fid. light £3 to £4 2s fid, runners £2 15s to £4 17s fid; Cows and runners to £5 7s fid. The store cattle entry was not a large one, and values were on a par with late rates. The interest o. one or two northern buyers steadied an uncertain fat sheep market, which would otherwise have dropped much more. The fat cattle entry was a big one, and included more bullocks than have been yarded for some sale* past. There were practically no prime quality heavyweight cattle penned.
