HON. W. NASH DISCUSSES LABOUR’S AIMS
(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.)
WELLINGTON, October 6,
“Never in eight months in the history of this country have so many important acts been written on the Statute Book,” said the Minister for Finance (the Hon. W. Nash), speaking at a farewell function at Lower Hutt. “We are not going to wreck the country. We are definitely set on the road to build it up and make it the finest country in the world. New Zealanders’ standard of living is the highest in the world, but it could be much better.” Mr Nash said that a remarkable tribute to the administration of the Labour party was the Manukau byelection. He was proud that, after the Government had written what Was imperative and important on the Statute Book, it should have won the seat by 4400 votes with a candidate not well known in Manukau. » From what he had been told by an English visitor, if the Labour Government in New Zealand should win the help of the people the second time, Britain would have a Labour Government the next time. New Zealand was a country in which the people of Britain were profoundly interested, and if Labour succeeded here its triumph would be twofold.
