At the September meeting of the society it had been decided to write to the department asking it to go ahead with the alterations. This letter had not arrived in Wellington till September 8, and it had been impossible to get the amendment through in time for the printing of the new licenses. “I contend that the chairman did not carry out his duties to this council, concluded Mr Lucy, “and he was not loyal to the society.‘V , „ . The chairman: I think Mr Lucy is on the wrong council. should be on the council of the North Canterbury Society, where they have a lot of trouble. , . . Mr Lucy: No. I only want to put matters right. , . ...... The chairman; Mr Lucy is trying to undermine the confidence of the council in its chairman. He is endeavouring to make a storm in a teacup, or a mountain out of a molehill. He has done this more as a personal bias against the chairmah. Mr Lucy Is inferring that I have been trying to go behind the council’s back. The whole thing is absolutely preposterous. The chairman continued that the matter had been held over because it was not considered sufficiently important to warrant a special meeting. After further heated discussion it was decided to write to the' Marine Department for the definite reasons for withholding approval to the alterations.
