TRAMWAY BOARD ELECTION
Mr W. J. Walter addressed supporters of his candidature for the Avon-New Brighton seat on the Christchurch Tramway Board at North Beach recently. Mr E. A. M. Leaver presided. At the conclusion of his address Mr Walter received a vote of thanks and confidence, and those present formed a committee with Mr Leaver as chairman and Mr Ralph Stringer as secretary.
MOTHERS* UNION
The Rt. Rev. W. G. Hilliard. Bishop of Nelson, conducted a Mothers’ Union corporate communion at St. Johns Church, Westport, where a large number of visitors from Greymouth and the country districts attended with the members of the local union. Upon arrival the visitors were entertained with morning tea in St. John’s Schoolroom and later at lunch at the Elite Tearooms, with Mrs George Aitken, sen., presiding. Speeches appropriate to the occasion were made by Bishop Hilliayd, Canon Bloyce, Archdeacon Jermyn, the Rev. Mr Collins (Granity), Mrs Jermyn, and Deaconess Heni Park, of Christchurch. In the afternoon addresses were given by Mrs Jermyn and Deaconess Heni Park, and items by Misses P. Garvey, J. Chamberlain, J. Rasmussen, and Mesdames Richards and Trail.
