Cairns, J: .Garner and A. Large, took the affirmative, and the - New Brighton team, Mesdames E. Last and F. 8.. Skinner, and Mr N, B. Ford, the negative. The, decision was given in favour of New Brighton, by the judge, Mr T. Young' - ’ . , At the conclusion of the debate, members of the Lyttelton class presented the tutor, Mr G. Manning, with a pipe and, pouch in recognition of his services to the class.Golf , The monthly medal match played by the Lyttelton Ladies’ Golf Club at Charteris-Bay during the week-end was won by Miss G. McFarlane, 110—36 75. Miss W. White-Parsons was the runner-up. -The best scores for a Stableford bogey match for trophies presented by Messrs R. O. Bradley and R. Anderson were returned by Miss G. McFarlane, 28 points. Miss M. Snowden 26, Miss C. Williams 25, Miss H. Sowden 24, and Miss W. WhiteParsons -24. In the. tie for fourth place Miss H. Sowden was declared the winner on , the count back-over the last nine holes. ,A mixed foursome played at Diamond Harbour during the week-end for trophies presented by Mr R. Y. Clow was won by R. Wilson and Mrs E. Cooper with 80 net. In the semi-final of the junior championship, E.‘ Cooper beat L. Scott 2 and 1. Miss M. Cook defaulted to Mrs' E. Cooper in the semi-final,of the ymtben’s championship.- Mrs Cooper will play. Mrs E. Hanna in. the final.
