THE TRAMWAY ELECTION
TO THE BDITOH OP THE PEB33. , Sir,—My reply to “S’s” letter on this subject In to-day’s issue will, be as brief as his criticism . “S” admits my questions were pertinent and merited replies from the gentlemen, to whom they were addressed; I thank him for the gdtninsibn and- .wfeh h«>Would persuade hM; leaders to a Similar franfe of mind Then they whuid n6t .dodge and such questions, and:endeavour to gulf the public, withvth#.;eb«irdly- ridiculous pose of being “tod proud to fight”-r-of reply, dnd trot out as a further reason for their silence the idiotic excuse of anonymity. These.excuses will serve no longer. Labour refuses to reply be Cause It cannot.
Where “S”.and I differ is qn his contention that ..any board bound handand foot to one political party as trades union movement can function impartially for the whole body of the public. It cannot be done. The Trades
Hall Junta or the public must be sacrificed on occasion—and a Labour man will never disregard the behests, of the lords of the Trades Hall—he dare not. ,A well authenticated story of a, year or two ago was that a Labour leader was%conircntQd by the Trades Hall dictators because as a public representative he had spoken or voted in a way the Trades Hall did not approve.; Verb sap. Meantime, I await replies to -my questions and am cogitating some fur-ther-ones to refresh the memories of candidates and citizens.—Yours, etc., . , REMEMBRANCE. October 5, 1936.
