The firing of the twenty-second week's matches In the Christchurch Association's winter tournament marked the close of miniature , rifle shooting in Christchurch for the 1936 season. The season just completed has been a most successful one. The Christchurch Working Men’s Club team, which seemed assured of championship honours for 1839, was soundly beaten by the Kaiapol Club’s team. The result was entirely unexpected as Christchurch was hr mg on the home range. Kaiapol shot most consistently, and put up the excellent total of 668, the highest la the grade for the season. Possibles were scored by A. Burnip, O. Stark, /. Richards, ana H. Trustram (Kaiapol). Ward's Ladies, in putting up the fine total of 861, won from Heatheote by three points. This was a magnificent performance for a women’s team. Mrs Nuttail, Mrs A. B. L. Smith. Miss Prlsk (Ward's), W. Read, and J, Evans (Heathcote) had the possible honours for the match. ‘ Hutchinson’s Motors won from Railway by a comfortable margin. A. Brurting, A. Purves (Hutchinson’s Motors), and K. Prichard (Railway) all scored possibles. Sydenham, a team that has put up some fine totals in recent matches, was beaten by Lyttelton by six points. D. Loader, F. Mills (Lyttelton), and A. Yeatman (Sydenham) scored possibles. - Cashmere, which is the champion Junior team tor 1938,; won from United by seven points. ‘ City had no difficulty in beating Christchurch by eight points. 8.-Turner (City) scored the only possible in the match. The following is the final position of the teams for the Association Cup:—Cashmere 19, Christchurch Working Men’s Club 18J, Kaiapol Working Men’s Club 17|, Railway 154, City 12, Hutchinson’s Motors Hi, Heathcote 9, Lyttelton a, Sydenham 6. Ward’s Ladles 34. United SJ. Christchurch 4. In the junior aggregate final, a closelyfought match resulted in a tie between A. Nicholl (Heathcote) and D. Joblln (Railway). A. President’s Grade Notes Marist Brothers, with the great score of 550, beat City by nine points. Marlst is the champion team in the A section for 1936, and is the first team to win ‘The Press" Cup. Possibles in the final match were scored by L. Walklin and A. Molloy. Christchurch, with the brilliant total of 552, beat Christchurch Gas Company by two points. E. Shaw, J. Sugg, Fi Byrne (Christchurch), and S. Allen, D, Bates, and C. Mason (Gas Company) scored possibles. In the B section Sumner beat Celtic Ladies by 23 points, and thereby won the Bishop Cup for 1936. A. Sherratt, of the Marlst Brothers* Club. Is the winner of the Christchurch Association’s president's grade aggregate for 1038. Sherratt is only 18 years of age, and Is probably the youngest shooter to compete in this season’s winter tournament. Ha Is undoubtedly the youngest entrant to win the Tlsdall Cup. He Is an old boy of St. Bede’s College, Christchurch, and as a pupil there he figured prominently in rifle shooting, winning several of the college titles. The annual match between teams representing the Sydenham and Christchurch Defence Rifle Clubs was fired on the association range. The match was won by Sydenham by 16 points. . The club championship of the Sydenham Club was won by H. Barker. The Junior championship was won by T. Stringer, A. Wright being runner-up.
