NEW DEVIATION AT RANGITATA

ACCEPTANCE OF TENDER The tender of Mr TL Pheloung has been accepted for foffr and a half miles of formation work on the new highway deviation at Rangitata. The time for the completion of the work is six months. The section of read for which the contract has been let to Mr Pheloung extends from Winchester to just north of the Orari riyer bridge. At present the contractor is working on eight and a half miles between Hinds and Ealing. Further tenders will soon be called for the section extending from the end of the present contract to the Rangitata railway station; but the exact route to be followed by this section of the road has yet to be announced by the Main Highways Board., The district engineer of the Public Works Department, Mr F. Langbeln, said yesterday that the tenders for the paving of the road through the Oxford township were still being considered.
