DID YOU EVER SEE?

Whitcombe and Tombs Competition Yesterday 1 was passing Whitcombe and Tombs, and, seeing a number of children gathered round a window I stopped to see what it was that was drawing their attention, A large window nlled with beautiful toys of all description was what I beheld. Suspended in the air by means of an Prize Winners Prize winners in the “Whitcombe and Tombs competition” are:--12 and over, Heather Killner, New Brighton, and Patricia Morrison, .Spreydon (equal); under 12, Bhona Midgeley, A.8.H., Fendalton. If the prize winners will call on Lady Gay she will see that they collect; their prizes^. . ■ • - The competition attracted a very large number of entries. and we must thank' Whitcombe and Tombs Ltd. for their generosity.

electric tan were Hites, model aeroplanes;' and gay; red parachutes. On the floor were squadrons of tiny aeroplanes, fleets of miniature ships and cars and sets of Hornby trains. Speeding round and round in the middle of the floor was a model electric train pulling carriages, a petrol tank, and last but not least, a trolley worked by Mickey and Minnie Mouse. At the back of the window was a row of novelty balloons in the shape of cats, and on a grass-cov-ered tunnel balloons were fixed which had -queer, funny faces painted on. them. Another tunnel almost hidden from view, two cuddly teddy-bears who. with arms linked round each other’s neck blinked at the games, picture embroidery and fancy work beside them. _, A gay side-window contained sheets of scraps and shelves of‘ mode! jungle animals, farm animals, race horses and racing greyhounds. Farm-drays, tractors, railway stations, garages, service stations, ommibuses, stream-lined buses, fire engines, steam rollers and meccano sets, all contributed to the decorating of this really marvellous toy-display, and it was reluctantly I turned away to complete my shopping. —HEATHER KILLNER (aged 12),
