ENGLISH CUP FINAL CLOSE OF THE FOOTBALL SEASON Winter sports are practically over for the season, and after to-day, with the final of the English Cup Association football competition, hockey and football jerseys will be put away until next season. The match at English Park for the last game of the season between senior teams is between Thistle and Western A. Thistle held the cup in 1933 and 1934. but Western won it last year. The match will begin at 3 p.m. All the senior cricket clubs will be opening their season to-day, and players will be keen to have a full try-out before the competition games start next Saturday. Lancaster -Park appears to have the strongest team as the club has received recruits from several other clubs. Entries for the championship games will close on Monday evening with the assistant secretary, Mr M. C. Ward. Some tennis clubs opened their season last Saturday, and most of the others will do so today. Gerat enthusiasm has been shown in the game already, and it appears that several strong teams will be again taking part in the grade competitions. Although there are several club cycling races to be decided to-day, main interest will be taken in the New Zealand 50 miles cash cycling championship, which will be ridden at Dunedin. Most of the back-markers are Canterbury men, and the race should give some indication of the form of the riders for the Christchurch.Waimate race on the following Saturday. The North Canterbury amateur golf championships will be played at Harewood over the week-end, and this tournament has drawn its usual large entry. All the leading amateurs in the province will be taking part.
